 om is increasingly under threat from authoritarianism\, democratic backsli
 ding\, armed conflict\, and the restructuring of higher education. But wha
 t does it mean when not only scholars\, but scholarship itself is at risk?
 \n\nThis talk and discussion explores the challenges facing academic freed
 om\, from the persecution and displacement of scholars to the destruction 
 of academic institutions\, the suppression of knowledge\, and self-censors
 hip. Drawing on examples from different regional contexts\, it examines fo
 rms of academic resistance and transnational solidarity\, while raising qu
 estions about the responsibilities of universities\, researchers\, and stu
 dents in defending academic freedom.\n\nThe event is part of the introduct
 ory lecture series of the MA Asian and African Studies at the Institute of
  Asian and African Studies (IAAW)\, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
