SUMMARY:The Cultural Politics of the (Un)Sayable: A Conversatorio on Fasci
zation and the Politics of Fear and Violence
DESCRIPTION:Who determines what can be said\, by whom\, and under what cond
itions? Processes of fascization are not only about the rise of authoritar
ian movements or the intensification of repression. They also involve stru
ggles over what becomes politically legitimate\, whose voices are heard\,
whose lives are valued\, and which forms of exclusion and violence become
acceptable.\nConnecting perspectives from Latin America to Germany and bey
ond\, this conversation with Schirin Amir-Moazami\, Belén Díaz\, Carolin
Loysa\, and Nitzan Shoshan explores how the policing of critique\, far-ri
ght claims of breaking taboos\, and the mobilization of fear\, cruelty\, a
nd militarized violence contribute\, in different ways\, to these transfor
mations. How do the boundaries of the sayable relate to the boundaries of
the politically possible? How are speech\, silence\, and violence entangle
d in contemporary processes of fascization? And what possibilities emerge
for collective resistance and alternative futures?\n\nThe event takes the
form of a conversatorio\, an open and dialogical format rather than a conv
entional panel or podium. We will begin with a few moderated questions to
open up the conversation before inviting everyone present to join the disc
 ussion.
