SUMMARY:Who's Afraid of Gender and Queer Studies? Gender and Queer Studies
 Against Fascism
DESCRIPTION:"Gender-Gaga\," "gender ideology\," or "l'idéologie du genre\,
" these are terms used to describe and discredit the academic fields of Ge
nder and Queer Studies and the larger movements for a more gender-sensitiv
e and just society. As scholars like Agnieszka Graff and Elżbieta Korolcz
uk (Anti-Gender Politics in the Populist Moment\, 2022) or Judith Butler (
 Who's Afraid of Gender\, 2024) have shown\, conservative and right-wing gr
oups attacking these disciplines in the US\, South America\, and Europe ar
e well-networked and strategically share and adapt strategies and talking
points. This workshop will feature input talks criticising the ongoing att
acks on Gender and Queer Studies in the U.S. and tactics used by the Germa
n anti-Gender movement. In addition\, we will show how anti-discriminatory
language can be an important tool for social justice. Then\, we will use
the World Café method to think about strategies to counteract attacks on
these disciplines and on academia more generally.
