Abolition in motion: Research and resistance to deportation in the German asylum system
Vor Ort
This talk addresses a set of interconnected questions: How do people threatened with deportation resist it? What do marginalised black mobility between West Africa and Western Europe, and black resistance to deportation within the German asylum system, reveal about deportation, migrant resistance, and postcolonial racialised borders? How do these struggles shed light on No Borders or border abolition as a „practical political project“ (Anderson, Sharma, and Wright 2009) that is already underway? How can we participate in such projects as organisers and critical scholars, and conduct fieldwork in sustainable ways? Finally, what does it mean to sustain abolitionist projects and engaged research under illiberal or authoritarian conditions?
