Feminism and the Fascists (?). Ethnographic Perspectives from Milei’s Argentina
Seminar · Vor Ort · Ethnologie · Gender Studies · Medien- & Kulturwissenschaft · Sozialwissenschaften · fachübergreifend · Anthropology
What can an ethnographic perspective from Latin America contribute to our understanding of contemporary fascism? Focusing on women’s participation in Argentina’s “libertarian new right,” this session explores the entanglements of (anti-)feminism, libertarianism, and the rise of Javier Milei. What kinds of political desires, notions of freedom, and forms of subjectivity animate contemporary far-right politics? How are they shaped by experiences of crisis and changing expectations of the state? And how might ethnography complicate the ways we recognize and theorize fascism in the present? This session of the basic course invites participants to join the discussion in Spanish, English, and German.
