Who determines what can be said, by whom, and under what conditions? Processes of fascization are not only about the rise of authoritarian movements or the intensification of repression. They also involve struggles over what becomes politically legitimate, whose voices are heard, whose lives are valued, and which forms of exclusion and violence become acceptable. Connecting perspectives from Latin America to Germany and beyond, this conversation with Schirin Amir-Moazami, Belén Díaz, Carolin Loysa, and Nitzan Shoshan explores how the policing of critique, far-right claims of breaking taboos, and the mobilization of fear, cruelty, and militarized violence contribute, in different ways, to these transformations. How do the boundaries of the sayable relate to the boundaries of the politically possible? How are speech, silence, and violence entangled in contemporary processes of fascization? And what possibilities emerge for collective resistance and alternative futures? The event takes the form of a conversatorio, an open and dialogical format rather than a conventional panel or podium. We will begin with a few moderated questions to open up the conversation before inviting everyone present to join the discussion.
